Moe Disesso

Wounded in WWII, Moe was discharged from the navy at 20 years of age.  Lacking academic skills, Moe sought work training horses and trick riding in rodeos and other events, while dreaming of becoming a Hollywood stunt double.

Discretion proved the better part of valor!  When Moe learned how dangerous stunt work could be, he started working with Curly Twiford, a successful Hollywood animal trainer.  Curly gave Moe a couple of eggs laid by his performing raven. One of the hatchlings, Jim Jr., proved to be exceptionally smart and was hired for the TV series “The Cisco Kid.”  Moe continued to acquire and train other animals and small wildlife, with a particular affinity for birds.

Moe won his first “Patsy” award in 1959 in the feature film “The Gazebo,” starring Glenn Ford, Debbie Reynolds and Herman, Moe’s  pigeon.  This early success was quickly followed in 1963 with another “Patsy” for the movie “The Raven,” starring Vincent Price, Boris Karloff, Peter Lorre and Jim Jr., Moe’s first baby.

Moe’s early successes encouraged him to begin producing and co-producing his own films, including the TV series “Animal World” with Bill Burrid.
